Our Flock

Introducing the New Guy, Bijou

Bijou is a green-cheeked conure, who joined our flock on July 21, 2000. He's a gorgeous boy, or maybe a beautiful girl (hard to tell when you're not another GCC), and we think he's just swell.

Here he is with his mommy, Stephanie.

What a great tail!

A Green-Cheek is very much like a Maroon-Belly, but note the tail. A Maroon-Belly has a mostly-green tail, although there may be some maroon up near the body. The Green-Cheek has an all-maroon tail, and we think it's very nice. Otherwise, they are much the same in temperment and size. Bijou isn't a very noisy little guy, compared to other conures, and he's very active and agile. Quite different from the 'tiels. I don't think I'll ever see Piper do a somersault, but I watched Bijou do them on the top of his cage, right off the edge!

Here they are, all three of them. That's Bijou (The New Guy) on the left, Piper (Bad Bad Bitey Bird) in the back, and Luna (Eating Machine) in the foreground. Here's Luna showing off her crest and Piper lookin' smooooooth. Bijou doesn't really have the hang of this photography stuff yet.

UPDATE: Luna's not showing off her crest anymore. Take a look.

The 'tiels showing why 90% of cockatiels are named some variation of "Spike", and Bijou looking enigmatic as only a GCC can do. Bijou decides that he's had enough of these flashing lights and exits, stage right. The 'tiels continue to show off, being much more experienced at this We're Too Sexy For Our Perch game than Bijou. He'll learn, though.
